Australian Quarantine Requirements

Currently, Oz offers three quarantine kennels, which are located in Byford Perth, Spotswood Melbourne or Eastern Creek Sydney. We’ll need to arrange for your pet, therefore, to fly into one of these three major airports. If you’re pet is headed for the northern territories such as Cairns, Brisbane or Adelaide,

the Sydney depot is best as it’s the largest and most comprehensive facility. We can advise also about moving your animal by land within the country, if that is something you feel may be necessary.

Quarantine Waiting Times

These may be three months, so we’ll need to get your pet booked in well in advance to secure him/her a spot in the hotel!

Export Health Certificate

Here at Airpaws we can help you arrange all the necessary paperwork, from your animals pet passport to their Export Health Certificate, required by Australian immigration as a proof your pet is not carrying any contagious diseases.

Heat Concerns

As made clear on the Australian government site ‘Heat stress in dogs and cats is an issue of concern in Australia. Australia experiences extremely hot summers (December–February) and temperatures can exceed 40°C (104°F). There is a significant risk of heat–stroke during this time, particularly for animals that are already compromised due to a medical condition, age, breed (snub–nose e.g. Pug), long/thick hair, being overweight or with a previous history of heat stress.

We strongly advise all importers to:

discuss appropriate precautions with a veterinarian;

arrange for animals to arrive in Australia early in the morning or later in the day (where possible and subject to normal collection times);

ensure water will be available during the animal’s flight and the travel crate has suitable ventilation; and

clip the cat/dog’s coat where appropriate, prior to arrival in Australia

IATA approved transit kennels

Dogs and cats must be shipped in IATA approved transit kennels that allow the animal to stand up without touching the top of the box, lie down and turn around. It is a requirement that dogs and cats are shipped as manifest cargo and not as excess baggage

Paperwork

Here at Airpaws, we’ll ensure your pets are accompanied by the following paperwork:

QIS Import Permit – the health certificate attached to this does not have to be completed by your vet (GB Vets technically cannot sign this form for legal reasons) – DEFRA form is equivalent to the AQIS health certificate and replaces it for animals originating from England, Wales or Scotland.

An Official DEFRA Export Health Certificate – this must be applied for from DEFRA (formerly the Ministry of Agriculture) – see bottom of sheet for telephone number.

Only part 1 is to be completed and certified by your LVI within 96 hours of the flight (Part B will be completed by Portal Veterinarian at Heathrow).

Pet Passports: A User Guide

Basically there are only three things you can actually take on the plane with you: dogs, cats or ferrets! We’re not actually sure of the historical origins of the reason ferrets are on that list but, well, perhaps people simply love their ferrets. Here at Airpaws, we only deal with dogs and cat transport, we should point out, but the principal is the same. You’ll need a passport for your pet and for that, there are some basic steps.

Within the EU

If you’re travelling in Europe your pet will need the following: an implanted microchip, a rabies vaccination, a pet passport, document treatment against tapeworm. Your animal must also travel by a government approved route, of which the full list is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/200595/pets-sea-rail-routes.pdf Remember, too, that once your pet has been vaccinated it takes a full 21 days for this to become effective, so you need to think about this in advance and make sure your pet has been jabbed well before departure.

Entering the EU from an Unlisted Country

Unlisted countries may mean that more stringent regulations need to be adhered to. The EU is quite tough on this, with the basic being to keep out the likelihood of infectious or dangerous diseases. As with the above list you’ll need the microchip and the rabies vaccination, but now will need, in addition, a veterinary certificate from the country you’re bringing the animal from. Remember to ask the vet you see to supply the correct documentation at this stage, too. You’ll also need to ask the vet to take a blood test, the results of which you must bring with you. NB: this blood test needs to happen 30 days or more after the rabies vaccination. (the day of the vaccination itself is day zero, not day 1. Just to make matters more complicated, you then need to wait a full 3 months after the taking of the blood test before travelling. So this means that the whole process, including rabies, can take 4 months! So it’s a long and arduous process, and worth getting a handle on as soon as you know your travel dates. Failure to adhere to any of these requirements may mean your pet is refused entry and of course will be a huge amount of hassle for you, the owner.

Do give us a call if any of this is unclear, or if you have any questions at all about the government pet passport scheme. We are well versed in all the potential issues which might arise around travelling with pets, and happy to offer any advice we can.

Animal Couriers: What’s important when shipping your dog or cat

Transporting your Dog or Cat

Whether you’re moving house for a new job, emigrating in your retirement years, you’ve won the lottery and are finally buying that mansion in the Bahamas, or perhaps you’re in the armed forces and are accepting a new foreign posting. Whatever the motivation, moving an entire household to a different location is a time consuming and highly stressful affair, and that’s before you’ve added in the difficulties of transporting your pets. Just taking them across the city to a vet appointment or to a friend’s house for the afternoon is an ordeal. Sure, you love your pet, but you also are dealing with an animal that is hard to deal with. With that in mind, the idea of moving with your pet is something that is hard to fathom. You have enough on your plate when you move, from the packing to the shipping of your items, to getting your family to the new location. This, of course, is ratcheted up a notch when you are moving internationally. alt="" width="236" height="214" />When it comes to shipping your pet to your new city, there is one thing that is going to be at the forefront of your mind: safety. Whether it is your dog, your cat, your lizard, your bird or your hamsters, you want to make sure that they get where they need to go not just safely, but also in a manner that doesn’t spook them. The best thing about hiring a professional company to transport your pet is that they know the exact way to transport your pet in a way that they will actually enjoy. The company will take care of everything from setting up kenneling to booking transport on a pet friendly airlines, and also making sure that your pet is able to clear customs (which is always something that a lot of people tend to forget about when they move).

With so much to do before you move internationally, it is important that you start looking at pet transport companies early. One of the reasons you want to start early, besides the fact that you are going to want to do a good amount of research, is the fact that you need to put together a checklist of what your pet needs to move from country to country. This includes thorough health records, and a new round of immunizations. Different countries are going to want different sets of health records to make sure that your pet is able to pass customs, and a pet transport company can help you figure out what you need. These transport companies will also be able to give you a thorough itinerary of your pet’s journey, meaning that you will always know where they are, and always be able to call in to make sure that they are okay. Remember: your pets are going to be traveling several days, so you need a company that is able to feed them a specific diet of your choosing, and give any medications that they may need as well.

Dog Club – Internet Dog Directory
Pets Directory

Transporting your Pet Across International Borders: Hire Airpaws

When it comes down to it, you have enough to worry about when you are moving to have to be overly concerned about your pets. You love your pets and want what is best for them, but when you are moving internationally, you are dealing with a mountain of extra concerns that you just don’t have when you are moving domestically. When you are moving across the city, you simply have to worry about packing up your home, renting a van, and spending an afternoon moving your items from location to location. In these types of situations, transporting your pet involves simply putting them in a crate in the back seat, or putting them in the back seat for the short drive around town. When it comes to moving internationally, though, things are a bit tougher. While you can do it yourself, you should take a look at transporting your pet with a professional service who knows what they are doing.

Here is the thing that you need to know about transporting your pet when you are moving: you aren’t going to be able to give them the attention that they need. This isn’t to say that you don’t’ want to, it is just the truth. You aren’t going to take the time to research the best airlines to transport pets, you are also going to simply go with whomever you find the cheapest rate for. Getting a professional service to transport your pet will allow you to focus on what you need to focus on, while making sure that you’re pet gets to your new home happy and ready to run around in their new yard. Whether it is a dog, a cat, a lizard or a bird, you can be sure that your pet is going to get the best service possible when they travel.

So what can a professional pet transport service offer you? First off, they can offer you door to door service, meaning that you don’t have to worry about getting them on the plane, or picking them up at the airport. They take care of picking the car up, taking care of them as they get ready for transport, getting them on the plane in a healthy manner, and making sure that they arrive at your new home when you arrive. These companies tailor their services to the exact pet that they are taking care of, meaning that specific diets can be adhered to, and medications will be taken care of. This is more of a valet service than a shipping service, meaning that you don’t have to worry about your pet getting anything but the best care while they are in transport. In addition, the services know the best airlines to transport your specific animal, meaning that they won’t take a risk on an airline that has bad marks in terms of pet treatment (you will be surprised at the info that is out there). You can find more info on the right pet transportation by taking a look online.

Compassionate, professional Pet Transport from Airpaws

ost people who have a pet realize that a dog or cat is more than just an animal, they are members of the family. You want your pet to be with you wherever you go. There are times when that might not be possible. You may need to go on ahead of your pet. You might wonder how your beloved dog, cat or other animal will be able to join you. The answer is simple, you need to look for a professional company that will be able to bring your pet to you. The right Pet Transport will make things easier for your pet. They will be easier on you as well because you will realize that your furry best friend is being well cared for and loved while you are apart.

When you are traveling overseas and bringing your pet along you will want to know the laws of the countries that you will be entering. The last thing that you will want to happen is that you arrive somewhere and discover that your dog or cat needs to be quarantined. You will also want to know the policy for your own country, you do not want a problem once you return home.

Maybe there is a situation where you cannot bring your pet with you but you want him or her to meet you there. It could be that you are moving or maybe you are taking a form of transportation where pets are not allowed. There is a simple solution to that problem, you can hire a company to transport your pet for you. If you are looking at that as an option make sure that they will take good care of your pet. You will want the transportation to be air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. It needs to be run by people who have a stellar reputation and who love animals as much as you do.

If you need to have your pet flown somewhere to you it is best to let a professional company handle it for you. They will already know the rules and regulations that need to be followed. They will find the right sized carrier so that will be one less thing that you need to worry about. The right company will make sure that your pet is comfortable and safe, which will mean that he or she will suffer as little stress as possible.

Sometimes there might be a delay and you don’t want your pet delivered to you immediately. Maybe you bought a house but can’t yet move in. The same company that will transport your pet when you are ready can also provide boarding services. They will make sure that you pet is fed, walked and groomed while you are waiting to be reunited once again. While there is no substitute for an owner’s love you will be happy to know that your pet is in good hands until you can be together again.

There are things that you will need to have ready before your pet is transported for you. Make sure that you have all of the necessary papers. You will want to have proof of the necessary vaccinations, your pet will not be able to be transported otherwise. If you have an animal carrier that you want to use check with the company that you hire to see if it will work. Sometimes a pet will feel a little bit better if they are used to the carrier, it will help him or her to relax a little bit more. A toy with your smell on it might also be allowed but make sure that it is nothing special in case it gets lost.

Before you and your pet leave home you will want to have a microchip implanted. That is the best way to make sure that nothing happens to your dog or cat. With a microchip all of the important information will be there in case something does happen. Even though you do not want to think about a problem you want to be prepared, just in case. Having all of your information easily available to the authorities on a microchip is a safe, harmless and inexpensive way to protect your pet. It will make the trip easier for everyone.

The rules that apply for dogs and cats may or may not apply for other types of animals as well. You might have a bird that needs to be transported. Maybe it is a rabbit or a guinea pig that you cannot take on the plane. You might even have a love for reptiles and need to get your snake to you. Look for a company that has experience in dealing with all different types of animals. That way your pet will arrive safely, no matter what it is.

Pet Transportation Issues: Finding a compassionate and reliable Firm

is now a global business, with scores of companies jostling for pole position in helping pet owners move their animals from place to place, country to country.
